About Roadblocked

Roadblocked is a free platform for running real-time scavenger hunts and Amazing Race–style games. It is built and run by Elias Kurki, an independent developer in Finland.

What Roadblocked does

An organizer builds a game from seven task types — photo or video, quiz, multiple choice, secret code, GPS check-in, single-tap action and QR code scan — and sends each team a link. Teams play in their phone’s browser with no app and no account. The organizer grades submissions as they arrive, and the leaderboard updates for everyone the moment points are awarded.

Who builds it

Elias Kurki designs, builds and operates Roadblocked from Finland, and is the data controller for the service at roadblocked.com (see the privacy policy). The first version went live in 2026. The blog is written by Elias Kurki too.

Why is it free, and will it stay free?

Right now the goal is simple: get Roadblocked into the hands of as many organizers as possible and make it better with their feedback. Everything you can do today is free.

Later on, Roadblocked will also offer paid extras — for example advanced AI features, deeper analytics, or options for larger groups. That’s how it will pay for itself. There will always be a free version.

Until then, organizers who want to help keep it running can make an optional donation from their dashboard.

Where your data lives

Roadblocked runs on its own server, and players never need an account. Apart from OpenStreetMap map tiles, your data isn’t sent to third-party services — even the optional AI grading runs on the same server. What is stored, for how long and how to have it deleted is described in the privacy policy.
