Comparison
A free GooseChase alternative with no per-participant pricing
The short answer
Roadblocked is a free scavenger hunt platform: you build a game from seven task types, send each team a link that opens in the phone browser, grade photo and video submissions live, and a leaderboard updates in real time. It’s free to use today, with no per-team fee, so it suits groups that outgrow GooseChase’s free plan of three participants. If you need native apps, offline play or enterprise support, GooseChase or one of the others below is the safer pick.

Is Roadblocked really free?
Yes, today every game is free, with no per-player fee and no plan limit on the number of teams. Paid extras such as advanced AI or analytics may be added later, but there will always be a free version. GooseChase’s free plan covers up to three participants for one Experience of up to 24 hours; bigger single events start at $99 for ten participants. Actionbound is free for private use but asks businesses, schools and clubs for a licence. Scavify doesn’t publish its prices.
Do players need to download an app?
Not on Roadblocked: each team gets a link, taps it and is playing in the phone browser, with no download and no account. To be fair, GooseChase and Scavify also let players join from a browser, and they offer native apps on top. Actionbound is the one in this list that requires its app.
What can Roadblocked do that the others can’t?
- Free with no cap from a plan. A 30-team company day costs the same as a three-person test run: nothing.
- A live grading queue. Photos, videos and quiz answers arrive as teams submit them, you award points from your phone, and the leaderboard moves the moment you do.
- Seven task types. Photo/video, quiz, multiple choice, secret code, GPS check-in, single-tap action and QR scan. Location-locked tasks are checked again on the server, not just on the phone.
- A presentation mode. Put the live leaderboard fullscreen on a TV or projector for the finale.
Where are GooseChase and the others stronger?
- Native apps and offline play. Roadblocked runs only in the browser and needs a data connection throughout. Actionbound can preload a bound and play it offline, and GooseChase and Scavify have iOS and Android apps.
- Track record and scale. GooseChase has run hunts since 2011 and says over 5,000 organisations use it. Roadblocked is a much younger, independent project.
- Enterprise and done-for-you options. GooseChase offers single sign-on and custom quotes, Scavify sells professionally designed hunts, and Actionbound has dedicated business and education licences. Roadblocked has none of these and no support SLA.
- Languages. Roadblocked’s interface is available in English, Finnish and French only.
Who should pick which?
- Pick Roadblocked if you want to run a team hunt for free, grade submissions yourself as they come in and show a live leaderboard, and your players will have mobile data. Good fits are parties, school and club events, and company team days run by the organiser.
- Pick GooseChase if your organisation needs single sign-on, recurring events under a subscription, a polished native app and a vendor with a long track record, and the budget is there.
- Pick Scavify if you would rather have a hunt designed for you than build it yourself.
- Pick Actionbound if players will be somewhere with poor signal and installing an app is fine, for example a self-guided tour played offline.
How do I move a GooseChase hunt to Roadblocked?
There’s no importer, so you recreate the tasks by hand. Photo and video challenges become photo/video tasks, written answers become quiz tasks, and GPS check-ins become check-in tasks. Not sure what to include? The scavenger hunt idea generator suggests tasks for your event and setting.
